We’re huge fans of watermelon and love discovering different ways to enjoy it. This popular Mexican inspired watermelon with tajin and chamoy and is our newest obsession. It’s our latest craving to share at Summer parties for something different beyond the typical fruit salad.
What is chamoy and tajin?
These are classic Mexican condiments that are loaded with layers and flavors.
- Chamoy is a popular Mexican condiment made from chili, salt, sugar, sometimes fruit and something acidic (like citrus or citric acid). Often used as a drizzle on fresh fruit, added to shaved ice or blended with smoothies. You can buy a pre-made chamoy or make it a homemade version. It’s quite easy to make homemade chamoy.
- Tajin is a simple Mexican seasoning made with ground chiles, salt and lime. We don’t think it’s that spicy and you just get a hint of it. So it’s pretty mild in terms of its chili level.
What does watermelon with chamoy and tajin taste like?
Each bite is a juice explosion of flavors: salty, sour, spicy and a hint of sweetness. Because the contrasting flavors are amazing and if you get a good sweet watermelon, you have the most ideal situation. It all starts with a great watermelon!
